We just installed our Smartop Upright cover onto our Arctic Spa Tundra Hot Tub. Our original top got too heavy, being water-logged over time. Now, our Smartop cover is extremely lightweight, easy to open and close with literally just one finger. I don’t know how they did it, but it’s like magic. And what’s surprising about this was that the delivery of the top from the shipping company was about 200 lbs. So it is a very solid product, but how on earth could it be so easy to open? I guess it’s the effect of hydraulics. Great job!
One other note on installation… as you can see, we have our hot tub sunk down, VERY close to our patio, so you can step down into it. This Smartop cover hardware is very thin, so we were able to install this on our tub without having to empty and move the tub. That was a BIG seller for us when considering a replacement for our old, foam cover. We were also grateful you provided spacers for mounting the lockdown arms, because the Arctic Spa units have a piece of wood molding that sticks out a bit. What you provided helped a lot on this. Overall, a very easy job. My son and I did the installation in maybe 2 1/2 hours.

We are just a few days in with our new Smartop Upright on a new Caldera Kauai spa. We went with a Smartop on this our 3rd hot tub because we were tired of replacing vinyl covers every few years with both the cost and solid waste that creates.
First off, this top is built strong. The cover itself is stiff and solid and the frame/struts are equally strong. The insulation is clearly top notch with both a thick top and long/thick skirts. With the assisted opening it is easy enough to open, but it does create a tight seal around the top that needs to be broken for the top to come up.
A couple of things new owners should know. This top needs to be clamped shut after use. This is an extra step I was not expecting and changes my hot tub routine a bit. Our model only comes in black, which is attractive enough, but the manufacturer does warn it can become overheated if reflected light from a dual pane window shines on it. That may become an issue for us. There is a break in period where the piston struts may be a bit too strong.
I expect this is the last spa cover we will ever need to buy! And that alone makes it worth it. Add in the excellent construction, materials, and mechanisms and we expect to be enjoying this top every day.
